”Nothing can dim the power of light for it was the power of light that powered the world! Never believe that the smallest of candles are worthless for the tiniest of flames can set the world on fire… Always believe in the power of your light. You can light the way to somebody’s path. That somebody may just be your future, your true love, your soul mate, your happiness or a blessing. It may very well be the one you are helping to cross over. “

Driven By Passion

First Class Caregiving was created to give students the opportunity to pursue rewarding careers in healthcare and care support. We understand that caregiving is not only about completing a course. It is about learning how to support people with dignity, compassion, safety and respect.

Driven by Karin Westphal’s passion for education, First Class Caregiving has developed more than 100 award-winning and internationally accredited programmes. These programmes are designed to support students at different stages of their learning journey, whether they are beginning a new career, improving existing skills or preparing for international opportunities.

Our training has helped more than 30,000 students graduate, with many going on to secure rewarding and well-paying careers in South Africa and internationally.

Values

Our values guide the way we teach, support, and develop our programmes. They reflect our belief that education should be practical, inclusive and meaningful.

  • Excellence in Education: We are committed to providing high-quality training that gives students a strong foundation in caregiving and assistant nursing support.
  • Equity and Inclusivity: We believe education should be accessible to students from different backgrounds, locations and life circumstances.
  • Personal Growth and Character Development: Caregiving is a career that requires responsibility, patience and compassion. We encourage students to grow not only in knowledge, but also in confidence, professionalism and character.
  • Community and Global Citizenship: Caregivers serve people, families and communities. Our training encourages students to understand the wider role they can play in society, both locally and globally.
  • Innovation and Adaptability: We continue to develop flexible learning options, including online training, to make caregiving education more accessible to students in South Africa and beyond.

Our Story Since 1996

First Class Caregiving was founded with a clear purpose: to raise the standard of caregiving education and make quality training more accessible to students who want to work in the care sector.

Since 1996, the college has continued to evolve with the changing needs of students, families, healthcare environments and international care industries. What began as a commitment to excellent caregiving education has grown into a recognised training institution offering flexible online courses, in-class learning options, and internationally relevant certification.

Today, our programmes support students who want to work in elderly care, home-based care, assistant nursing, infant care, dementia care, and general caregiving roles. We are proud to continue helping students gain skills that can make a real difference in people’s lives.

Why Caregiving Training Matters

Caregiving is one of the most human-centred careers in the world. Caregivers often work closely with elderly people, vulnerable individuals, recovering patients, people with disabilities, infants and families who need daily support.

This work requires more than kindness. It requires knowledge, patience, communication skills, responsibility and practical understanding. Proper training helps students understand how to care safely, respectfully and effectively.

Our caregiving courses in South Africa are designed to give students this foundation. We aim to help learners understand the role of a caregiver, the importance of compassionate care, and the practical responsibilities that come with supporting another person’s wellbeing.

Online and In-Class Learning Options

We understand that every student’s situation is different. Some students can attend in-class training, while others need the flexibility of studying online from home.

That is why we offer both online and in-class programmes.

Our online courses are ideal for students who:

  • Are currently employed
  • Live outside Johannesburg
  • Need to study part-time
  • Prefer learning at their own pace
  • Are based elsewhere in South Africa, Africa or abroad
  • Need access to flexible caregiving training

Our in-class programmes are suitable for students who:

  • Prefer face-to-face learning
  • Want structured classroom instruction
  • Can attend training in person
  • Benefit from direct contact with lecturers
  • Want a more traditional college learning environment

Both options are designed to help students gain valuable caregiving knowledge and work towards recognised certification.

Internationally Recognised Certification

One of the reasons students choose First Class Caregiving is our focus on internationally recognised certification. Many of our students want to work in South Africa, while others hope to explore opportunities abroad.

Our internationally recognised caregiving and assistant nursing training helps students prepare for local and global possibilities. Many graduates have gone on to build careers in different countries, supported by the quality of their training and the recognition associated with our programmes.

While employment always depends on employer requirements, country-specific rules, immigration processes, and each student’s application, our training is designed to support students who want to take caregiving seriously as a career.

More Than 30,000 Students Trained

First Class Caregiving has helped over 30,000 students graduate. This milestone reflects years of dedication, development and commitment to student success.

For us, every graduate represents more than a number. Each student has their own reason for studying. Some want to support their families. Some want to care for loved ones. Some want to enter the healthcare field. Others want to create international opportunities and build stable futures.

We are proud to have played a part in so many student journeys.
